Semi permanent lashes aka Eyelash Extensions are done with a qualified lash technician who will apply one or more individual synthetic eyelashes to each of your natural lashes. These can be Classic (one synthetic lash per natural eyelash) or Volumes, often described as 2D/3D/4D etc (2D is 2 synthetic lashes glued to each natural eye lash and so on...) Which you choose depends on the look you're going for, how dramatic you want them to be, and how much you're prepared to pay for them. But we can discuss that in a future post. For today, I'd like to help you with the PROS + CONS of having eyelash extensions done for your wedding.

🌴 One of the greatest things about having lash extensions is that these will last weeks and you'll be HONEYMOON READY as well. Wake up with the lashes you wish you were born with and never have to worry about mascara! You'll feel more put together without wearing any makeup so this is a time saver too for your honeymoon and everyday life.

🌴 Ugly crying at your wedding = no worries. As long as you're past that initial 48 hours that you're not allowed to get your lashes wet, eyelash extensions can withstand a whole lot of crying.

🌴 Having lashes on already can also save time in your makeup schedule for your wedding day, especially if you're prone to watering or have sensitive eyes as this can cause some delays when applying false lashes.

🌴 Some people would say it is more difficult to apply makeup with eyelash extensions. You do need to take care when applying things like concealer around the eyes so you don't "white out" your lashes (only want to white out the eye bags thanks 😂) Powders and glitters from your eyeshadow can fall on your lashes as well so if you're not confident in cleaning them off this may be an issue for you. I have found applying micellar water to a lash brush and brushing them through with the micellar water does wonders in cleaning them off without ruining the rest of your makeup.

🌴 Price is another thing to think about. Most makeup artists (us included) offer complimentary temporary lashes as part of their makeup packages. So to have lash extensions done is not only an additional cost but can be quite an expensive one. Great lashes

aren't cheap, and cheap lashes aren't great 😉 If you decide to continue with them (and warning, you may get addicted) this will be an ongoing cost every 2-4 weeks depending on how well your lashes last.

🌴 You have to be prepared to be delicate with your lashes and care for them well. If you don't, not only are you ruining your eyelash extensions you've paid good money for, but you can actually damage your natural eyelashes too. Lashes need to be cleansed regularly with specific lash shampoo from your tech and brushed daily. No rubbing your eyes, be conscious to dry them carefully after showering. It is recommended to use silk pillowcases to avoid snagging and breakage of lashes. You also need to avoid mascara (but you don't need it anyway), oily cleansers and heavy eye creams. Most lash techs will advise against using eyeliners on your top lashes also.

🌴 You will need to do some research to find reputable lash technicians in your area. (We can help you too). Eyes are a serious thing to be messing with, so don't take this lightly! Someone who does not take due care and use proper hygiene methods can cause a lot of harm.

I hope that has helped you make a decision whether or not you would like to have lash extensions done for your wedding. I'm often asked which is better - and I guess there is no right answer! But rest assured that if you don't have lash extensions, I keep a beautiful range of luxury lashes from Model Rock which I can apply for you and you will not be disappointed with these. 😍 Please get in touch if you have any questions about lashes!
